Ten Good Reasons to Vote Yes To A Strike Mandate
- Treasury Board has offered us wage increases of 1.75%, 1.25% and 1.25%. These increases won’t help us finally catch up to private and public sector wage increases after suffering from wage freezes in the ‘90s. And they won’t help us even keep up with increases in the Consumer Price Index.
- Treasury Board has completely ignored the Table 2 Joint Pay Study and the 20% average wage gap. We need to close the gap with our counterparts in the private sector and other levels of government.
- Treasury Board refuses to roll the terminable allowances for our members at Table 3 into their rates of pay.
- We want better job security in the face of program review and government plans to privatize our work. There is no agreement from Treasury Board on our demands for no contracting-out and no layoffs.
- Treasury Board has refused all our proposals at all Tables to improve allowances and introduce new ones.
- Treasury Board won’t acknowledge that captive time pay needs to be increased.
- We want to incorporate the new Term Employment policy into our collective agreements and to reduce, from three to two years, the period of time a term employee has to work before being converted to indeterminate status. No agreement from Treasury Board so far.
- We want our members to have a better work-life balance but Treasury Board won’t recognize our demands for better leave provisions including increased vacation and family-related responsibility leaves.
- We want our members to be paid for the work they do, not where they work. Treasury Board isn’t moving away from regional rates of pay for Table 2 members. National rates of pay are overdue.
- In spite of the scandals,Treasury Board wants to wait for Parliament to pass whistleblower protection legislation and refuses to entrench this protection in our collective agreements.
